Turns Out, MySpace is Against Teen Pregnancy

Perhaps a bit put off by its reputation as a breeding ground for hot teen hookups, MySpace wants you to know that it’s actually anti-teen pregnancy: and what better way to do so than by sponsoring the National Day to End Teen Pregnancy? MySpace is cosponsoring Stay Teen video contest (rules found at the Stay Teen MySpace page, natch), which encourages teens to… stay teens, I guess, by not having babies.

Much as I am loathe to say anything nice about MySpace (I mean, come on: have you seen the site?), it is good to see that they’re using their immense power over a captive teen audience to promote social good (and safer sex — though the contraception section of Stay Teen is admittedly pretty weak). If they’re going to be a dominant force in the social lives of teens, at least they’re a dominant force that encourages making smart decisions about sex and using contraception.
