If you live in New York City, and you ride the subway (and if you live in New York City, you probably ride the subway), you’re more than likely familiar with Planned Parenthood’s “Planning is Power/Tu salud, Tu futuro. CuĂdate.” campaign. If you’re not familiar with it, follow the links: it’s a stylish social marketing campaign that promotes use of condoms and contraceptives (two of my favorite things!).
For those of us who can’t get enough of the campaign (or who just need a discussion piece when we’re at cocktail parties), PPNYC is now offering “Planning is Power” themed cellphone wallpapers (or “cellphone decor,” as the site labels them). If I were the kind of person who actually goes for cellphone wallpapers, I might bite and download one — it’s certainly a lot more interesting (and meaningful) than, say, hot young movie star of the minute (though maybe not as interesting as that picture of your drunk friend shoving his fist in his mouth).

In my neck of the woods, a similar Planned Parenthood campaign was launched, with billboards that said “Plan on Being Healthy,” and “Plan on Being in Control.” An inside source told me that one of the rejected slogans for the campaign was “Plan on Being Happy.” Apparently the suggestion that being sexually active, non-reproductive, safe, AND happy was too controversial.
