Online Dating as Niche Dating
The Internet is known for connecting people who share niche interests (I believe that’s what’s known as “online community.”). So, really, it isn’t that surprising that online dating has morphed into a world of niche dating sites (wasn’t that the ethos behind Spring Street Networks?).
And it’s not just JDate and HDate anymore… here are some of the new niche sites that are popping up in the dating world (and the niches) they’re hoping to serve:
- Farmers Only: For farmers looking for a roll in the hay… or that special someone to tend to the harvest with.
- Click Tonight: Feel more comfortable in a group setting? Click Tonight allows users to set up group dates and avoid the potential awkwardness of a bad first date.
- Doggie Dating: Apparently, canines need (online) love too. Is this the digital version of picking someone up at the dog run?
- Seeking Arrangement: Need a little sugar in your life? Feeling overwhelmed by the cost of living in Manhattan? Seeking Arrangement is a place for potential Sugar Mommas and Daddies to connect with Sugar Babies (their terminology, not mine).
- The Ashley Madison Agency: Feeling the need for a little extracurricular activity, but can’t shake the guilt that comes with lying about your married status? Ashley Madison hooks up married people in search of affairs (and has what may be the best tag line ever: “When monogamy becomes monotony.”).
- Single Muslim: With all that Muslims have had to put up with lately, it’s nice to see that someone on the Internet’s trying to make their lives a little easier…
