So we’re a little late to the “Lily Allen has a third nipple” party (Gawker posted the video last week), but we’d still like to take a moment to say a few things about third (or supernumerary) nipples (and Lily Allen):

• Supernumerary nipples (that’s their proper name, folks) are often less than fully developed, more likely to be mistaken for a birthmark than recognized as a nipple.
• They occur in about 2% of women, and a slightly lower percentage of men (sorry, Lily: it’s not something that happens to one out of ten people).
• Some women have been known to go beyond the third nipple and actually develop a third breast (which forms right below one of the other breasts, not in the middle of the chest or anything).
• Though you usually hear about third nipples, there are people who develop more than that: the model Masuimi Max has four nipples.
• Lily Allen is totally awesome for being open and unashamed of her third nipple. Boinkology totally wants to give her the third nipple pride award. Or something.
