Gayness 101

We may have found a reason (perhaps the only reason) to move to Montgomery County, MD: this fall, the county will start offering lessons on homosexuality as part of their 8th and 10th grade health education curriculum.

What kind of lessons, you ask? Will they be teaching students the ins and outs of the homosexual lifestyle? Will practicing homosexuals be on hand to recruit (you know, like the army in reverse)?

In a word: no.

What will happen, then? Well, according to The New York Times, “[t]he lessons’ central message is respect and acceptance of the many permutations of sexual identity, both in others and in one’s self.”

Shocking! Daring! Well, for some people at least: a “vocal minority” of parents who aren’t too keen on eighth graders learning that, um, some people aren’t heterosexual.

Dear Concerned Parents: Your kids probably already know that.

And here’s hoping that Montgomery County is a trendsetter: it’d be nice to know that kids all across the country are getting the message that we all love differently. (Okay, okay: wishful thinking, we know, but we can hope!).
