Single and lonely? Single and looking to move? You might want to make your way to San Francisco: according to Forbes, it’s the #1 city for singles (with New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago rounding out the top five).

What makes San Francisco so great for the singles? Apparently, a combination of its “nightlife, culture, job growth, number of singles, cost of living alone, coolness and online dating” (yeah, we’re a little confused too).

But with 34% of its population unhitched, and high rankings for culture, nightlife, and coolness: well, sure, we guess we can see it (and if you still can’t, Violet Blue offers up some explanation in this companion piece — apparently, it’s all about the Safeway, souped up speed dating, and the classes at the Center for Sex and Culture. Safeway, hmm? Maybe there’s hope for New York to take #1 next year.).
