Boinkology knows more than a few women (straight, lesbian, and anywhere in between) who really love gay porn (like, um, a lot). This seems to befuddle a few people (even — or perhaps especially — the people who create gay porn), so we thought we would take a moment to discuss why, oh why, the ladies might like to look at something that — gasp! — doesn’t involve any ladies at all.
Our immediate assumption was that it’s because a) the men are hotter than in straight porn and b) you get to see lots of cocks — but we figured we should ask around and see if there were other reasons. A casual survey suggested that, yes, our hunch was right — but that there’s a whole lot more to it than just pretty men and lots of cocks. Some of our favorite reasons include:
- Men are objectified in gay porn. Straight porn assumes that its viewers are, well, straight men, and that straight men don’t really want to look at other men (just ask JBS). As a result, men’s bodies — hot or not — aren’t really the focus of the camera’s gaze. In gay porn, on the other hand, it’s assumed that viewers want to see hot man ass — and so the camera lingers on said ass, to the delight of man ass appreciators of any gender.
- Gay porn features the whole man, not just his penis. Straight porn often assumes that the (male) viewer will identify with the (male) actors, and that putting too much of said actor into frame will ruin the fantasy. As a result, the camera tends to focus on the penis and the penis alone. Gay porn, on the other hand, lets the viewer appreciate and admire the whole male body.
- In gay porn, there are no women to compare yourself to. And thus, no women to make you feel bad about your less than perfect body. Also, two men with no women? Instant threesome, with no other chicks to compete with.
- Gay porn has double the man ass. Because, um, it’s men fucking men. Nuff said.

I think this is sort of a no-brainer. Besides the things you already listed, gay porn has a distinct lack of women being treated like shit and paraded like objects. And of course, men everywhere scratch their heads as to why women might like it. Gosh, the ladies are so mysterious. Gag me. Actually, you know what? Don’t, please. I’d bet that would appeal to some women as well, for the first two bullet points above still apply.
September 19th, 2007 at 3:41 pmI have to agree with Irene Kaoru. I’d also like to comment that a little objectification isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it can be a turn on. BUT, as a society women are marginalized and treated like shit by men more frequently than might even be noticed by the men themselves, and of course even more of that pervasive notion in porn is not sexually arousing. Watching gay porn… they’re equals in terms of their genitalia and in terms of societies take on men and women so any objectification that goes on is understood to be in good fun. (Although, certain resentful females, myself included, can occasionally find it fun to watch men objectify other men instead of -always- objectifying women.)
One more point, gay porn is hot not just because the guys are less hairy (or some other stupid shit like that though it may appeal to some women) but because of the raw male sexual energy.
