There’s a very big difference between actual rape (which no one actually likes) and fantasy rape (which allows a person to maintain control while playing with the idea of powerlessness), but in our culture (which isn’t too big on subtleties) admitting to a rape fantasy sounds dangerously close to giving the okay to real rape. Which no one wants to do.

Which is why we were so pleased to read Tracie Egan’s account of hiring a male prostitute to rape her. Though her experience ultimately ends up less than positive (which made us sad: we like seeing people’s fantasies fulfilled in awesome ways), the piece is still a very smart and interesting examination of the urge to be (fantasy) raped.
