Dumbledore Comes Out, The World Applauds (Mostly)

Ever since J.K. Rowling went and outed Dumbledore, we’ve found ourselves eagerly following the fallout. Mostly positive, some negative, and some apathetic — and with more than a few slash fiction jokes thrown in for good measure, the reactions have definitely been interesting.

Here’s a round up of some of our favorite links:

  • Salon already knew that Dumbledore was gay, and is glad he came out, but thinks Rowling might be going a little crazy with some of her secret sharing.
  • Reuters wants to know why people care: shouldn’t gay characters be par for the course in this day and age? We say: yes, they should; but actually, they aren’t.
  • GayGamer.net rejoices that Dumbledore is “on our team.”
  • Americans For Truth About Homosexuality see this as homosexuals manipulating children into believing that gayness is okay. Hey, better than manipulating children into being bigots!
  • Dumbledore Pride offers up some “Dumbledore is gay” swag (and part of the proceeds go to GLAAD — sweet!).
  • And, perhaps most importantly, the fans react. In many ways.
