We were recently tipped off to the existence of WooMe, supposedly the next hot thing in online dating. Currently in alpha, WooMe claims to combine speed dating and video chatting, allowing users to meet five people in five minutes — without leaving the comfort of their home!

Our immediate reaction? Worst idea ever. WooMe seems to combine the desperation of speed dating with the awkwardness of Internet dating — worst of both worlds, as far as we’re concerned. It’s too early to tell if we’re right — since the site is in alpha, the user base is too small to actually test things out — but we have a hard time seeing WooMe as a good idea.

Frankly, if we’re going to engage in any speed dating derivative, it’s gonna have to be Crazy Blind Date, which at least has the feeling of speed dating minus the desperation.
