It started with a video on XTube: a video of a man named BaseballPlaya319, masturbating his way through the stores of Glendale, Arizona, to the tune of the Sneaker Pimps‘ “Spin, Spin Sugar.” We posted the video on a Sunday night, and with a few hours it had made its way to Consumerist, Fleshbot, and the front page of Digg. And it didn’t stop there: the story traveled offline, making it’s way from the local news all the way to CNN.
How did this all happen? How did people react? And really: how do we feel about it all? In this special edition of Boinkology TV, we discuss the ins and outs of last week’s biggest story.
Missed all the hubbub? Here are some highlights of some of the WalMart masturbator press:

Wow, that is awesome. And the site didn’t crash from the onslaught of traffic.
December 3rd, 2007 at 6:43 pmEXTRA EXTRA: LUX CALLED WAL MART MASTURBATOR “HOT”!
December 3rd, 2007 at 7:43 pmHa, if that guy whipped it out in front of me in Walmart, I wouldn’t be the least bit perturbed, but I would be compelled to charge him $120. I’m an erotic masseuse, and that’s the going rate for one hour of my services!
December 4th, 2007 at 1:06 amThe internet is weird, and local news is perverse. I’d rather be weird than perverse, any day. Of course, public masturbation IS a crime… if someone is offended by it.
Hmm… that reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon… a woman vehemently denies that she was given information and begins screaming and essentially becoming unbearable. Dilbert relents, and the woman gets her way.
The moral of the story? “Reality is dictated by the people that are most insane”.
Any ways, this comment is pretty much stream of consciousness, so I am unsure of the point I am trying to make… uh…
give me a minute…
Masturbation is ok, exhibition is ok, masturbatory exhibition is ok… masturbatory exhibition in a forum not meant for such a thing… sells a lot of local ad dollars during the news.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:06 pmThis masturbatory is doing important work that I think should keep up. Allen Able would be proud.
