We know more than a few tech girls — and guys — it kinda comes with the territory of being a part of this blogging/podcasting/2.0 community. So we’ve been getting more than a few notices from friends who’ve had their photos put up on Dig A Tech Girl, asking for us to, well, dig them.
The site is something of a cross between Digg, Hot or Not, and, well, “tech girls” — and the more we look at it, the more frustrated we become. The very idea of a site that rates “tech girls,” who presumably have more going for them than just a slamming bod, solely on the basis how slamming their bod is — well, it’s a pretty frustrating reminder of what the world values when it comes to girls. Even “tech” girls.
Worse still: a brief pass through the site makes it more than apparent that many of these tech girls were chosen more on the basis of appearance than any tech skills — even nominal ones. Seriously, people: Julia Allison a tech girl?? Compared to their counterparts over at the vastly less popular Dig A Tech Guy, the girls of Dig A Tech Girl are pretty pathetic.
Honestly: Julia Allison vs. Bill Gates? What?
Oh right: girls need to be pretty and nice to be attractive, whereas boys just need to be rich and smart. Even in the tech world.
