We recently received a copy of The Orgasmic Diet, a book that claims to hold the key to the female orgasm. Brushing aside claims that female sexuality is mostly about the mind, Marrena Lindberg argues that better nutrition leads to better orgasms: and by better nutrition, she means a Zone-like diet that’s low in caffeine, high in fish oil supplements, and includes daily doses of dark chocolate — and some intense work outs for your PC muscles.
Is it legit? Is it just another fad diet? Lindberg has more than a few women willing to testify to her diet’s success — but we’ve decided to jump into the fray and see for ourselves. Will regular fish oil intake make for better orgasms? We’ll have to let you know.
Of course, even if Lindberg’s diet is bunk, we’re still impressed with (and encouraged by) her underlying message that women can — and should — take their sexuality into their own hands. At the very least, it’s a refreshing break from a culture that encourages women to wait for someone else to get their engines going: it’s encouraging to hear someone argue that women are fully capable of revving their engines all by themselves.

The article behind the “testify” link actually concludes “forget the orgasm diet,” brings up a number of confounding variables that may have been responsible for the writer’s improved O.
It’s a safe bet that better nutrition will improve sexual health, in a general way. A related example: Newsweek recently had a great special issue about the links between diet and fertility, and other than the occasional serving of ice cream or whole milk, almost 100% of the recommendations were also good for general health.
Any claims beyond that, including this “orgasm diet,” will need some decent statistics (that is, not just anecdotes) backing them up.
I suppose it’s too late to add this to the huge nurse’s study that’s making waves in the long-term study of women’s health…
January 7th, 2008 at 11:27 pmSelf Magazine did an article this month on the book. The article’s author followed the plan laid out in the book and within 3 weeks was boinking the crap out of her husband like they were teenagers.
As I was already taking calcium, magnesium and zinc, I just added fish oil to my diet about a week ago. Before that, my sex drive was absolutely ZERO for the past 4 months due to a medical problem. Within 48 hours I masturbated twice in one day, which is totally amazing. And I’m still feeling like that now. I haven’t even thought about sex and here I am thinking about it all the time. I’m ecstatic. I was seriously considering getting testosterone shots.
I think this woman knows what she’s doing.
