Ever since Julia Allison revealed a little too much about the mind of Jakob Lodwick, we’ve had bipolar on the brain. What’s it like to date a bipolar person — or date as a bipolar person? This weekend’s “Modern Love” provides a bit of insight into that question, with Terri Cheney’s essay on looking for love while managing bipolar disorder.
Not surprisingly, it’s no picnic. Cheney’s up and downs make the “getting to know you” stage of things a bit more complicated — because of the dramatic mood swings associated with being bipolar, it can often seem as though there’s more than one of her to get to know.
And even once a bipolar person gets past that stage, and into a relationship — well, let’s just say the whole thing kinda puts JakobAndJulia.com in perspective for us.
