Popular soap As The World Turns broke new ground last summer with an onscreen gay kiss, followed by a second onscreen gay kiss, followed by… nothing more than handshakes and hugs. Did the show producers turn down the gay heat to appease angry fans? Maybe — but more than a few fans are angered by a change that they perceive to be inauthentic to the story line — and maybe just a bit homophobic.
