We recently got our hands on a copy of the second issue of SuicideGirls Magazine and were surprised disappointed to see that — while the pages of the magazine were loaded with images of hot, nubile, naked punk girls — off all the interviews printed in the magazine’s pages, not a single interview was with a woman.
Now, we know the SuicideGirls staff has interviewed more than a few women, so why didn’t any of those pieces make the cut into the magazine? Really now, what kind of message is that supposed to send?
Oh right: that girls only matter when they’re hot and naked.

Yeah, I’m not buyin’ the Suicide Girls-as-alterna-hot-neo-lib ladies. I lived with a girl who’s now an SG and girl’s a bit nutty. Not that all of them are, I just know they don’t make the bank they should for their photos because they lose rights to the images and don’t earn royalties. From my understanding, these are my opinions.
March 25th, 2008 at 5:29 pmthat doesn’t surprise me. most suicide girls are nothing but chicks with low self-esteem and tattoos. there is nothing liberating about being so desperate for attention that you’re willing to sell your naked image for $250 per photo set. on top of the fact that the company president is a man. way to go, girls. you really are making a great statement for women everywhere.
March 25th, 2008 at 6:38 pmSuicide Girls is a terribly run company. The default contracts strip models and photographers of their rights for years after working with SG and there is litigation currently ongoing. SG is very fond of intimidation lawsuits which in many cases models and photographers don’t have the resources to fight. However, former model Apnea and photographer Lithium Picnic have decided not to settle their lawsuit and litigation is ongoing.
Despite all their efforts to build up nerd cred, the SG owners are not good people nor are they good businesspeople. Spend your money elsewhere.
March 25th, 2008 at 9:14 pmSG is no different from any other current popular pornography in this regard. To think they are different is to swallow a marketing message whole; that is, to be an idiot.
March 25th, 2008 at 11:09 pmno one would be annoyed with SG being a typical porn operation if they didn’t go around acting like they weren’t a typical porn operation.
