Virginia Teen Censored For Nude Self Portrait

The human body is a beautiful thing — unless, apparently, you’re seventeen and painting a nude self portrait, in which case it’s dirty, wrong, and bad.

Yeah, we’re confused too, but that’s the message that The Virginian-Pilot gave when it overturned a judge’s decision to award first prize in the paper’s student art competition to Beth Reid. Apparently, Reid’s modest nude portrait was just too racy to be art:

Frankly, we have a hard time seeing what’s so controversial about the painting — it looks like a beautiful piece of art to us!

This is the worst child porn scandal since Elton John had his Nan Goldin photos seized.

It is beautiful. I dont know how to feel about it. It was more tasteful than some pictures I’ve seen in Nat Geo and so on and they are “educational” so those get by but this doesnt.
