Sure, Facebook makes it easy for your friends and loved ones to cyberstalk you, but do you ever wish they could use it to really stalk you, and know where you are at all times? Now, thanks to the Social Network Integrated Friend Finder, they can! With a little bit of mobile phone hoodoo, you can allow people to “sniff” you out, and figure out where you are.
Okay, yes: SNIFF says that privacy is their biggest concern, and people will only be able to sniff you if you’ve okayed it — but somehow, we’re not too sure we can trust corporation’s promises about privacy (especially when Facebook is involved.).
Anyone else see this as a great way for jealous lovers to check up on their significant others? Or, worse yet, for abusers to stalk their partners? Yeah, the more we thing about it, the less awesome SNIFF seems.

While due diligence is a meaningful concept, we are entering into an age where the control of personal information is becoming an onerous burden on the individual. I fear that some sort of convention on privacy is required, similar to the conventions that created the modern internet in the early 1980s…
April 9th, 2008 at 11:07 amOh wow, a privacy convention. Interesting idea.
I saw Zuckerberg speak at SXSW, and he kept talking about a trust based system. That’s really the key, though, isn’t it: your privacy is only as good as the people you trust. The people you trust… maybe aren’t always very trustworthy.
