“It’s really easy to be slutty these days,” says David Karp, founder of Tumblr and a white person who tries to look serious. But when was it not easy to be slutty? Here in New York City, there’s almost a stigma attached to people who actually have a boyfriend or girlfriend, as though you’re denying others of your partying time for your own selfish acts.
People in New York don’t really want to grow up, and why would they? Here are five reasons New York is a lot like Neverland:
5. You’re just going to have to accept the fact that you’ll probably have roommates into your 30’s, even if you’re a multi-millionaire.
4. Meanwhile, people sleep over at each other’s apartments… but they rarely move in together. Sure some couples do take the plunge but how many relationships before it fail before it? Besides, who wants to give up their rent stabilized apartment? Raise your hand. I didn’t think so.
3. You never need to learn how to drive — permanent adolescence!
2. And no matter how drunk you get, you can always make it home by cab or subway.
1. So you might as well just give up. Besides, you’ll never actually make enough money to leave, and hey, if you’re getting laid so frequently why would you even want to?

April 19th, 2008 at 7:49 amI think if half of the people who moved there knew what they were signing up for they’d swivel and go right back home. If you accept this dynamic and run with it then fine but I am rolling my eyes at the people who think they are there truly subverting some dominant paradigm.
