If you’re a lady who’s had a GYN exam, you’re no doubt aware that when GYN exams good they’re tolerable… and when they’re bad, they’re horrid. And a shockingly high number of doctors fall into the “horrid” category, to boot (we define “shockingly high” as more than zero).
Thankfully, for both your cooch and mine, a group of women known as gynecological teaching associates (or GTAs) are out there doing their part to reduce the number of horrid GYN exams. Using their bodies as teaching devices, they help train medical students to give GYNs, guiding them through the procedure, and giving them feedback on their technique (and bedside manner).
“At Your Cervix” tells the story of this important — yet largely unknown — profession, highlighting the significance of the work these women do.
Fun fact: I once applied to be a GTA! But that’s a story for another day.

When i was forced to do it (worst 8 weeks of my internship) trick seemed to be avoiding scratching the urethra. interestingly enough many ladies complain about female examiners been actually worse than male ones.
