We’ve been curious about this whole “virtual dating” trend since the first time we heard the name OmniDate. Not so much “Damn, where do I sign up?” curious, more like “Who on earth would sign up for this?” curious.
It’s not that we have anything against the idea of people “meeting” and “going for dates” without leaving the comfort of their couch — it’s more that, if anything, investing a great deal of time in virtual dating seems like a surefire way to get your hopes up about someone who may not actually be that great in person. (It’s a pretty simple equation: the more time you spend talking to someone online, the more likely you are to convince yourself that they’re someone they’re not.)
But now we have our answer: the Toronto Star has taken a penetrating look at the world of virtual dating… and found that it’s a great service for 42-year-old single mothers looking to get back into dating. And probably other people too (like men looking to date said 42-year-old mothers), but those people weren’t quoted in the piece.
Yeah, for now, we’re probably going to pass on the virtual dating.
