We’re not one hundred percent sure how we feel about the latest from Hugh Hefner on the Miley Cyrus/Vanity Fair pseudoscandal:
“Certainly she’d be welcome to the magazine. She’s a very pretty lady.”
As for the drama caused by Cyrus’ VF shoot? “To make such a big to-do over something as innocent as those photos — I think it’s a reflection of how schizophrenic America is about sexuality.”
On the one hand: yes, Hef, we totally agree with you about America being messed up about sex. And yes, those not-even-topless photos were so not worth the scandal.
On the other hand: um, thinking about the ancient Hef lusting after not even barely legal Miley Cyrus kinda gives us the willies.

Hmmm. Your last sentence appears to neatly, and ironically, encapsulate your own (American?) schizophrenia about sex in so far as the elderly (or “ancient”) are concerned (cross-generational sex -> dirty old men -> perverts?)
Heffner was apparently talking about possibilities when Cyrus turns eighteen, when any transaction they entered into would be, presumably, between consenting adults.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:53 pmSo what could be the objection? A personal antipathy towards Heffner? Hardly worthy of a blog post. Or is it because he’s “ancient?”
If your public reaction (feeling the “willies”), had been based on race, colour, creed, or gender, you would be quite rightly howled down. If it has been based solely on age, then it should meet with equal treatment.
It really shouldn’t need to be said that sexual desire (however expressed) is not a prerogative of the young. For many, it is with us (albeit less intensely so) till death do us part, however yucky that may seem to some others who are less advanced in years.
ANDY: While you may not get the willies thinking about it does give me the willies… his THINKING about it, which Lux clearly states. It has nothing to do with the waiting part, thus “on the other hand” remark.

Apparently you haven’t seen the many posts we’ve written on twilight sex.
I’m all for old people getting it on. Old men publicly lusting after fifteen year old girls, however? Not so for that.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:12 pmJust another Hugh Hefner Media Stunt and it seems that the older he gets the more stunts he plays. What he needs to do is to call the Office in Chicago and check to see if they are still printing Playboy Magazines. After he took the 60 million out of his stock the Company is out of money. He apparently does not know the financial position of Playboy.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:21 pmAnyway he is entertaining and can’t wait for the next Hugh Hefner Media Stunt.
Random Side Point: DON’T buy the current issue of Vanity Fair for the lame Miley Cyrus photos. DO buy the current issue of Vanity Fair for Thurston Clarke’s great article on Bobby Kennedy’s 1968 presidential campaign.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:20 pmI don’t know if I’d call him schizophrenic about sex, but additionally, the airbrushed, feathered hair view of sex that Hugh has been pushing through his magazine for years and years ain’t exactly healthy…
