Dear Porn Mags: No Plagiarism, Please

We’ve never been all that impressed by the writing in mainstream porn mags — after all, it’s mostly atrocious. But we always assumed that it was at least original work. Well, as original as anything about “throbbing, tight wet pussy” can get, anyway.

But apparently we were giving the porno mags too much credit. It seems our friend Debauchette was recently plagiarized by Tight magazine, which reprinted, and mangled, one of her past posts, with no permission and no attribution.

Shocked as we are, we’re (sadly) not all that surprised. More than a few corporations seem to few the internet as a repository for free content — a place to go for, uh, “inspiration” when your pen (or camera) has run dry. But hey, Tight? If you like Debauchette’s writing so much, you should at least pay her for it.

Taking charge of her own body and living with that choise proudly?
Living up to her sexual/female potencial?
Being a good writer and expressing herself openly?

Hell no, we ll condemn, laugh, point, rape and/or steal.

Like you, I’ve been asking myself these relevant questions after being alarmed by Debauchette’s post. I’ve been receiving some very positive comments about the approach and writing style to my own blog, and also wonder about it becoming a target for plaigerists. Sometimes I ask myself if I’d rather stop producing it for free, and venturing further into more professional erotica writing.

However, I also use images on my blog which are either were shot myself with consenting partners, or taken and slightly altered (cropping, etc) from free or promotional adult commercial sites.

As those images are essentially free and available to the adult-site-browsing public, I’ve inferred that no copyright violations were taken place. Am I mistaken, and/or would this practice be regarded as unethical, or do you suppose I’m on agreeable ground with this practice? I would like to nurture a wide, sex-positive readership with this blog and other ventures, and I wouldn’t want to risk offending a readership on the grounds that I’ve been plaigerizing net content. What do you think?

    Rogue:

Are you linking back to/crediting the sites from which you take the images? If you are, I think you’re fine.

  • Rogue says :

Funny you should suggest that; I came to the same conclusion this evening. Thanx.
