Okay, maybe BlackBook thinks they’re being funny here, but the joke is so tired we can’t even fake a laugh:
Showtime is most certainly stepping up its game. The HBO manquĂ© recently picked up 12 episodes of “United States of Tara,” the story of a mother with dissociative identity disorder, which stars Toni Collette and John Corbett. It’s being written by smart stripper Diablo Cody, and produced by a man named Steven Spielberg. Great, just what we needed—another reason to watch TV.
Get it? Diablo Cody took her clothes off! That’s all you need to know about her. Isn’t it funny? She was a sex worker, and now she’s a screenwriter! That’s so cute!
It’s a laugh a minute, all right.

June 5th, 2008 at 9:01 pmFunny thing, I really did not care for “Juno” but I find myself on the defensive saying so because people assume it’s because of Cody’s personal life.
The fact she was a sex worker is irrelevant to the fact the last third of that movie was held together by musical montages.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:25 pmi only liked juno when it got to the end! except the music. i really have trouble dealing with anti-folk.
that said, i can’t believe diablo cody is the only ex-stripper writing in hollywood. it’s probably actually really common don’t you think? but i think the media latches onto it (how long was she even a stripper? i didn’t think it was very long) because, well, it sounds sexy. and sexy sells.
