Planned Parenthood Raises Plan B Awareness

As pharmacies across the country refuse to stock Plan B (and no, not just ones in rural areas — ones in good old Brooklyn, too), it’s nice to know that Planned Parenthood will always be there for us. And if you’re in New York City, they’ll have a hot social marketing campaign to make sure you’re aware of that fact!

    1. It’s good that Planned Parenthood is letting people know where they can get access to Plan B, but something about the shiny happy hold-handing couple is annoying. I’m not sure what image would work and no, I’m not saying they should have a picture of a broken condom and someone going “Oh shit!” but for some reason these feel like outtakes from a match.com ad campaign.

    2. I think it’d be better if they threw something in that said, “You know, in case regular contraception fucks up.” I’m wondering if the current message — “to prevent surprise pregnancies” — could be misinterpreted as Plan B being a routine form of contraception which isn’t the best idea health wise or reliability wise, if I understand it right.

    3. I’m in the midst of giving up caffeine this week and generally make no sense. So maybe I’m just cranky.

Haha yeah, when I think of the morning after pill/Plan B in the States I don’t think of smiley couples, I think of the moment you pull out and the sheer feeling of terror as you realise that nothing more than the mere tatter of a bottom half of a condom is covering you…

Still good on Planed Parenthood for providing it, emergency contraception seems like it’s a nightmare to get in the US. In the UK it’s so much easier, pretty much any doctor’s, clinic or pharmacy will give or sell it to you.

ok, just so everyone knows, the pharmacy catty corner to the one pictured is the one by my house that sells sex toys! i don’t know if they carry plan b, because when i took it, i got it from kings, because that’s where i get my regular meds so they have my insurance on file.

i have to say, those posters totally make sense to me. those couples are comfortable and happy because they know that if a bad thing happens, they’ll be ok. knowing that there is plan b, and having it on hand, are -comforting-. plan b doesn’t make me think of the moment i realized the condom had come off (it didn’t break for me, it slid off), it makes me think of the relief of taking the pills and being relatively certain i’d not be pregnant.

They’re not too bad really, and what else could the alternatives be?

They also give a certain number of Plan B’s for free per year, depending on your income.
