Can A Song Be Gay?

As you’re probably aware, June is Gay Pride Month. To show our gay pride, we’re having Gay Week over at Boinkology: from Monday to Friday, it’s all gay posts, all the gay time.

In a profile of the True Colors tour — which doubles as a rally for LGBT rights — Time wonders whether music can be gay. After all: gay rights tour, full of gay musicians… if there’s going to be gay music anywhere, it’d be there, right?

[Or here. If a song appears there, it's totes gay.]

Okay, all kidding aside, it’s a good question. There are gay people, obvs, but do gay people automatically create gay art? Gay fashion? Gay music? Or does there have to be something intrinsically “gay” about the work of art for it to be gay itself?

And, conversely: can straight people create gay music? Cause man, if the answer is yes, our mind is just blown.

Okay, not really.
