Facebook may have taken away our right to get freaky — but at least they’re letting us move beyond gender! In the same way that you can disable the relationship field, you can now erase any mention of sex from your Facebook profile.

We’re pretty happy about this, and not just cause it means the trans kids can finally represent themselves accurately (though that is pretty awesome, of course). In the same way we don’t always want to tell the world who we’re dating, it can be nice to escape the assumptions (and, uh, flirtations) that are often an automatic effect of announcing your gender.

And hey, wasn’t the internet supposed to free us from things like gender and race and appearance anyway?
