American Apparel, long known for its softcore porn-style advertisements, is slightly less well known for using actual porn stars as models. And while some may scoff at the inevitability of it all, or see it as a sign of American Apparel’s slow but sure decline towards sheer smut peddling, I, for one, am glad about it.
Think of it this way: porn models are paid to look hot (usually without clothes on). Traditional models are paid to look hot (usually with clothes on). Both porn models and models are the subject of jerkoff fantasies — and more than a few models have been known to cross into the world of nude modelling (thanks, Playboy!). So why shouldn’t porn models be able to cross back the other way?
Getting paid to look hot in a photo is still getting paid to look hot in a photo, whether you’re clothed, naked, or somewhere in between. In our idealistic little hearts, we sincerely hope that American Apparel’s move is somehow a sign that the stigma of working in porn is decreasing day by day.
And hey, even if it isn’t, we’ll always have Sasha Grey.

Can I send them a list of the best looking porn stars to be featured in more of their ads? And tell them I will only buy the clothes if they’re worn by said performers?
