Will regular boning help you lose weight? Do you actually care? This week’s award goes to withoutscene, who reminded us why magazines are so hot to tell us that sex burns calories:
It’s a popular thing to add into sex articles because people are obsessed with calories and getting thinner. Therefore, anything that could potentially make you thinner is considered a perk. So any time anyone can invoke the “weight loss” frame, they will. It’s the same reason people say the upside of getting the flu is that they lost ten pounds…the same reason people dying of cancer get complimented on their weight loss.
This also occurs because both food and sex are considered pleasurable, sinful, and bodily desires to be disciplined. If by partaking in sexual pleasure, you are also disciplining your body (by burning calories), it’s like the pleasure/guilt conundrum evens out.
Congratulations! We’re giving you a chocolate cake. Because if it tastes good (or feels good), we could care less about calories.
