Upscale Call Girls On “Secret Diary Of A Call Girl”

Not to go linking to two Salon pieces in two days, but… yes, we’re going to link to another Salon piece today. But for good reason!

What with all the hullabaloo over how realistic “Secret Diary Of A Call Girl” is, it seems that very few press outlets have really gone to the source and, you know, asked actual escorts whether or not they think the show is realistic or not. But Salon went to bat and asked, not one, not two, but three working girls how they feel about the show.

And, not surprisingly, they got mixed answers. But interesting ones — and, thankfully, none that freak out about the fact that Showtime is glorifying the life of a lady who gets paid for sex.

Not surprised at all about the negative feedback the show and blogger behind it is getting–almost every review of the show I have seen says it is weak. I hope that one result is that people will go looking for more authentic writings from real sex workers like “HOOKER: A Beautiful Madness” by Mae Victoria. I enjoyed the responses of the real sex workers on Salon a lot. Refreshing. I think that Showtime is doing this because after the “DC Madame” and the Eliot Spitzer incidents, people are curious and fantasizing about call-girls a lot these days. We seem to be selling a lot of the movie ‘Memoirs of a Modern Day Geisha’ at Gamelink.com.
