Feeling pretty confident that I was headed headed towards boyfriend/girlfriend land with the girl I’ve been dating, I decided to ask her to be my girlfriend via Facebook relationship status.
And she accepted! Woot! She replied “hehe, you’re funny, and sweet :P,” — so score for me.
Here are a few suggestions to anyone else thinking about doing the same thing:
1. You should feel pretty confident they’re going to accept… because if they don’t, you’re going to look like an ass. Facebook lets the world know that you’re in a relationship before your intended accepts; it just doesn’t say with whom. Before she accepted, three people had already commented on the change of status. Had she declined, I would have had to change it back and make up some excuse, like that I had accidentally done it or that someone had logged into my account to mess with me.
2. It’s been done now, so anyone else doing it from here on out would just be copying me. It’s better to go find your own original thing.
3. No seriously, I’m calling this thing as mine. You should really probably do this in person. You know, man up! Don’t wuss out like I did. I mean, she’s probably going to dump me after reading this anyway.
Note: I know it’s usually [Ed.: always!] good policy to always follow Lux’s advice on anything, especially about not blogging about your relationship… but I’m not Lux and this is just too good to keep to myself.

August 22nd, 2008 at 10:08 amI think young women are more likely to ask a guy to be boyfriend through Facebook relationship status than the otherway around; can we get some statistics on this somehow?

August 22nd, 2008 at 10:41 pmfacebook relationship status are the new seinfeld matzo ball.
I actually tried this a while ago with a girl I wanted to hook up with, but I tried to say that we were engaged.
She rejected me, but at least she was amused. Even though she turned me down.
