Leaving MILF Island

We can blame it on Bancroft. Anne Bancroft’s portrayal became the model of “MILF” for generations to come. The sexually knowledgeable older woman who seduces the naive young man. Stifler’s mom, Demi Moore, even 30 Rock’s “MILF Island” all owe so much to that single, sensual portrayal.

The term MILF is extremely objectifying (obviously). It reduces a woman to a clever bit of slang. A “MILF” would seem to embody everything a young man could want in a sexual partner. She ‘knows what she likes’ and isn’t ‘looking to play games’. Often the “MILF” fantasy woman is married, or otherwise attached, so it’s simply a sexual dalliance without those dreaded “strings” we’re always hearing about.

But is a 24 years-young hot momma really a “MILF”? More and more porn is pushing the “MILF” age lower. Seems you go from “Barely Legal” to “MILF” ever quicker. This just dillutes the fantasy even more, to which I say, good.

Older partners can be great. They have life experience well beyond kinky sex. I’m the product of parents who were over 20 years apart in age, and they loved each other fiercely. Lets stop seeing older women as animals (cougars) and acronyms… and and start seeing them as what they are: just people, like everyone else.

i feel like you aren’t a milf until your kid is pubescent, you know? because i associate it with being a friend’s mom.

that said, i agree. the term is icky (like most such terms) and objectifying.

I was dating a 29-y.o. guy when I turned 40. I was kind of self-conscious about it (does this mean I’m immature? do I look old next to him? why do I care if I look old next to him? etc.) but I got LOTS of high-fives. Really, lots. (Like, “She’s still got it!”)

I was never called a MILF but sometimes a “cougar,” which always made me cringe — I guess the predatory thing can have a disquieting sexiness to it (Anne Bancroft) but, yuck.

(It was hot! We dated for a year and left on good terms.)
